Paul Eichler, 82, who lives in Richmond, Va., originally owned antiques along with a silver tea set that his late wife Sharon collected during their marriage. The collection was a 25th birthday present, and he wanted to make sure it went to a good home, and that home was Montgomery’s.
Eichler initially had silver tea for sale, but was disappointed by subscribers who were only interested in melting silver for profit. That changed when Mayor Mary Hawkins Butler found his list and after speaking with him decided to give Madison the silver instead of selling it.
